Lime Crime Matte Velvetine Beet It Review and Swatches

Let me tell you something. Lime Crime was the first liquid lipstick I ever tried and it certainly did not disappoint. The concept of putting on a liquid lipstick which dries into a matte shade was quite fascinating to me. And the Goth ranges of shades from Lime Crime were absolutely delicious.

That being said, the controversial air surrounding Lime Crime Makeup had me second guessing myself. Ethically I found myself questioning this purchase but bought it anyway. I don’t know if I’ll buy from Lime Crime again though. Never know what the future holds.

My Choice: Lime Crime Velvetine Liquid Lipstick in Beet It

What is it and who is it for?

Lime Crime Matte Velvetines are a range of matte liquid lipsticks in all shades possible. “The Only Liquid Matte Lipstick Inspired By Rose Petals.” Couldn’t have described it any better. They have a range of reds, nudes, purples, pinks, blacks, and also green and blue. Lime Crime is the epitome of Goth or ‘indie’ as they call themselves.

The shades are very versatile and suit all skin tones. I loved that about this range. I bought the shade Beet It and as the name suggests, the shade is quite beetroot-ish. Now I’m saying ‘ish’ because the shade isn’t quite as intense.

In fact, this shade can be worn in the day as well as at night. It’s a purple-pink shade that suits every skin tone possible and I must say, I fell in love with it immediately.

What does the Brand Claim about Lime Crime Matte Velvetine Beet It ?

The liquid matte that started it all. Conceptualized and developed by Lime Crime CEO Doe Deere, Velvetines draw inspiration from her favorite flower – a red, red rose. Doe used to cut out rose petals and paste them onto her lips as a child. Richly pigmented, French vanilla-infused formula glides on as a liquid and dries down to a luxurious, velvety matte finish that lasts for hours and hours. Touch-proof, kiss-proof and utterly addictive.

Long lasting matte liquid lipstick in a deep berry-pink hue.

What it does: Makes your lips feel luxurious and velvety, like a rose. Lasts all day with minimal touch-ups, even through meals.

What it won’t do: Bleed or transfer. Dry out properly moisturized lips. Ruin the perfect kiss.

TIPS: Apply lip balm 15 minutes prior; pat off excessive oils with a tissue. Apply Velvetines directly to lips (use a lip brush to refine edges). Remove at the end of the day with waterproof makeup remover or oil.

How to Use:

Rule of thumb for every liquid lipstick: scrub and moisturize before applying. Same goes for this one. It isn’t as dry as I expected it to be but it does need reapplication. The applicator is relatively smooth and the lipstick is very pigmented. I only wish Lime Crime would come up with a range of lip liners to go with the lipsticks.

My Experience with Lime Crime Matte Velvetine Beet It

Day Test:

I chose to wear this lipstick in the day and just a simple reapplication made me carry it on into the night. My daily routine did affect the lipstick but only a few flecks came out on my cup or my food. I did feel my lips become dry as well. That is something to be borne in mind and accepted for all powder matte lipsticks though J

Quality:

The pigmentation of the lipstick is wonderful and it slides on super easy. I’ve always struggled to remove liquid lipsticks but this one didn’t take as much time. My only complaint was that it left a pink residue making me look like I’d actually eaten a beetroot. So it definitely stains.

I have mixed emotions on this one. On one hand, I enjoyed the product solely based on its quality and result while on the other hand; the uneven reputation of the company makes me question my choices. That being said, I reviewed this product on the basis of it being a lipstick and nothing more.

And so, I must say this Lime Crime lipstick was better than most of the lipsticks I own. The packaging was absolutely gorgeous and the frosted glass finish is somewhat unique to me.
