My Experience with Lakme Foundation for Oily Skin – 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation
This Powder Foundation comes in pressed powder format. Naturally, its packaging is very similar to compact powders. It comes in a round container with two compartments. The foundation pan is to be found in the first compartment along with a round mirror attached to the lid. The nest compartment is for a round sponge applicator. This compartment has small air holes in the bottom to dry the sponge applicator if it comes in contact with sweat. The theme color of the packaging is rose gold. The lid has shiny rose gold finish while the bottom lid is of plain plastic with a similar color. The compact is packed inside a cardboard box. Overall, the packaging is stylish, travel-friendly and sturdy.
This Powder foundation is available in 6 shades. 3 of them are with warm undertones while the rest 3 has cool undertones. I am in the shade Ivory Cream which is the lightest shade from the warm undertone category. The other two warm tone shades are Silky Golden (medium shade) and Honey Dew (darkest shade). The three pinkish undertone shades are named as Rose Silk (lightest), Natural Light (medium) and Natural Almond (darkest). The shade range is wide enough to be useful to every Indian complexion. Most other base makeup products often forget about the darker complexions but I am happy to say this range will please all.
The shade Ivory Cream is a shade with recognizable warm undertones. Those of you who use the shade 128 Warm Nude from Maybelline Fit me, Pearl shade from Lakme 9 to 5, Invisible Finish or shade 01 from Nykaa SKINgenius foundation would find it as your matching shade.
Texture & Finish-
The texture of the powder is buttery smooth and not cakey at all. The finely milled texture blends like a dream. The finish is matte as promised but the matte effect does not cause the skin to get flaky dry.
It is a fragrance-free product. There is a short staying medicinal smell which takes just a few seconds to go away.
The coverage of this one is low but buildable. Since it is a powder product I expected the coverage to be low. So, there’s no regret but I would have liked a bit more!
The staying power of this one is 4-5 hours in my case for this comfortable monsoon weather. When humidity is high, it stays 3-4 hours and then I need to re-touch.
I generally apply this foundation over my moisturizer; I do not use any BB cream or foundation underneath if I am using this. The coverage is, of course, unable to hide the acne marks but the warmth cancels out the redness from pimples and darkness under my eyes to some extent. The shade gets blended to the skin perfectly so if you mistakenly buy a shade light or dark you will have your chances to make it work. This foundation has an ability to distract the attention from the pores. It is able to blur my pores to make it a little obscure.
What I liked
- Non-drying formula evens out the face
- Shade range is wide
- Staying power is good
- Blends well
- Blurs pores to some extent
What I did not like
- The ingredient list is not mentioned
- Felt a bit overpriced considering the performance
- Coverage is not that great
Would I Repurchase or Recommend?
I will recommend Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation to someone who has oily skin, fewer imperfections to hide and wants an all-in-1 base makeup powder to just even out the skin. I don’t think I will be buying another pan of this product. It takes ages to hit the pan of a compact!
